The Estonian office got the highest rankings in the corporate and commercial and employment practice areas. The directory highlighted the firm’s assistance provided to Microsoft with domain and licence matters, in employment – services provided to Philip Morris in regards to employment and data protection matters, and advising the Estonian IT company Nortal on cross-border employment issues. The head of both practice groups, partner Toomas Taube, who was given the highest individual ratings in employment and intellectual property, “possesses excellent problem solving skills”, according to clients interviewed.
Risto Vahimets and Hannes Vallikivi received top individual rankings for their expertise in corporate and commercial, real estate as well as banking and finance practice areas. Risto Vahimets, who heads the M&A practice in Estonia, is appreciated for “co-operative and customer-friendly approach”. Partner Hannes Vallikivi, the head of the banking and finance team, is referred to as "knowing the ins and outs of this area and very helpful in explaining that information”. He is particularly noted for assisting the European Central Bank with the law concerning the disclosure of banking data.
Partner Andra Rubene, who heads the competition practice group from the Latvian office, is recognized for her professional expertise in prohibited agreements, abuse of dominance, merger clearance and state aid. Her clients refer to her as “knowledgeable and highly involved in the competition community”.
Partner Vilius Bernatonis, who heads the energy law practice in the Lithuanian office, is described as a leader in his field“offering non-standard solutions and demonstrating in-depth legal knowledge”. His team is recognised in the field of energy law, among other, for long-term counselling to the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania, especially regarding implementation of the EU Third Energy Package, representing the state in complicated high-profile disputes against Gazprom, and assistance to the European Investment Bank in energy efficiency projects.
Chambers Europe year after year continues to recognize partner Lina Darulienė as one of the best experts in the area of the competition law in Lithuania. Clients emphasize the ability of competition law specialists in the Lithuanian office to present strong arguments in court and “put their points across in a simple and easy to understand way”. Among the most successful projects, the legal directory mentions advising VPA Logistics on alleged participation in a cartel agreement and assisting Swedbank subsidiary FR&R Invest with the merger clearance elements of its acquisition of Alita.
The managing partner Eugenija Sutkienė is appreciated as a long-term leader in several areas of law, including mergers & acquisitions, public and private partnerships and restructuring.
