The European commission approves €193 million Lithuanian state aid scheme to support offshore wind farms to foster the transition to a net-zero economy

05.10.2023 The European commission approves €193 million Lithuanian state aid scheme to support offshore wind farms to foster the transition to a net-zero economy

TGS Baltic advised client on getting approval from The European Commission to support offshore wind farms to foster the transition towards a net-zero economy, in line with the Green Deal Industrial Plan

The state aid scheme was approved under the State aid Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework, adopted by the The European Commission on 9 March 2023 to support measures in sectors which are key to accelerating the green transition and reducing fuel dependencies. The new Framework amends and prolongs in part the Temporary Crisis Framework, adopted on 23 March 2022 to enable Member States to support the economy in the context of the current geopolitical crisis, already amended on 20 July 2022 and 28 October 2022.

TGS Baltic role was to lead client through the complicated process and help get the Commission's approval.

The state aid scheme will enable Lithuania to accelerate the rollout of green energy projects, such as offshore wind farms. This will contribute to the EU Green Deal's ambitious energy and climate targets, without unduly distorting competition in the Single Market – quoted by Commissioner Didier Reynders.
