    Chirag Mody specialises in dispute resolution with a focus on civil disputes and arbitration, as well as cross-border disputes. Chirag has extensive experience in advising clients in board member liability, construction, real estate, bankruptcy, investment, finance, technology, libel, and contractual cases. He has represented clients in major national and cross-border courts and arbitration disputes. He has also been trusted multiple times to act as an arbitrator to solve a dispute between the parties.

    Chirag has been teaching civil procedure, law of obligations, contract law and legal argumentation at the University of Tartu for over ten years. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot competition in Vienna.

      Harju County Court dismissed all three actions brought against our client in the total amount of EUR 2,500,000. In three court cases that lasted more than two years, it was argued whether our client had breached their official duty and failed to protect the interests of the corporate debtor in the bankruptcy proceedings.

      After a court action that lasted for more than a year, the opposing party withdrew their claims filed against the two clients of TGS Baltic. The claim filed against both clients exceeded a quarter of a million euros. Harju County Court dismissed the claims by its order of 15 November 2021. The dispute focuses on whether Empower constructed the power substation according to the parties’ agreement and Elektrilevi operated it according to the relevant statutes.

      Representing the Estonian banking and financial services company LHV Pank and the fund management company LHV Varahaldus against the Estonian financial newspaper Äripäev in a defamation case.

    • Representing Maru Ehitus against Alstom Estonia

      Successfully representing Maru Ehitus in various matters against Alstom Estonia (General Electric) regarding the quality and delay of the construction works of a power plant in Narva, Estonia. Maru Ehitus acted as a subcontractor to Alstom Estonia and was responsible for constructing parts of the power plant in the amount of approximately 2.5 MEUR.

    • Acting as co-lead counsel in the largest investment arbitration case

      Acting as co-lead counsel with Squire Patton Boggs LLP (Prague) for the Republic of Estonia in an investment arbitration case (ICSID) initiated by Tallinna Vesi, Estonia’s largest water supply and wastewater collection and treatment service company, and its investors. This is the largest investment arbitration case against the Republic of Estonia to date. All claims against Estonia were successfully dismissed, including a monetary claim of 65 MEUR plus interests.
