    Chirag Mody specialises in dispute resolution with a focus on civil and administrative court proceedings, bankruptcy law, cross-border disputes and arbitration. Chirag has extensive experience in advising clients in the resolution of various contractual, construction, planning, bankruptcy, trademark, insurance, energy, libel and public procurement proceedings. He has represented clients in major national and cross-border arbitration disputes. Over the years, Chirag has also advised in projects related to the electricity and natural gas fields.

    Chirag has been teaching about the law of obligations, contract law and the methodology of legal argumentation at the University of Tartu for many years. Chirag won first place at the Estonian Law Moot Court Competition; successfully participated in the Telders International Law Moot Court Competition, where he came in third; and has been a member of the University of Tartu team in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot competition.

    • Acting as co-lead counsel in the largest investment arbitration case

      Acting as co-lead counsel with Squire Patton Boggs LLP (Prague) for the Republic of Estonia in an investment arbitration case (ICSID) initiated by Tallinna Vesi, Estonia’s largest water supply and wastewater collection and treatment service company, and its investors. This is the largest investment arbitration case against the Republic of Estonia to date.

    • Representing Maru Ehitus against Alstom Estonia

      Successfully representing Maru Ehitus in various matters against Alstom Estonia (General Electric) regarding the quality and delay of the construction works of a power plant in Narva, Estonia. Maru Ehitus acted as a subcontractor to Alstom Estonia and was responsible for constructing parts of the power plant in the amount of approximately 2.5 MEUR.

    • Representing LHV Pank and LHV Varahaldus in a defamation case

      Representing the Estonian banking and financial services company LHV Pank and the fund management company LHV Varahaldus against the Estonian financial newspaper Äripäev in a defamation case.

    • Representing Elering in a dispute against construction companies

      Successfully representing the Estonian national transmission system operator Elering in a dispute against the Skanska EMW and M-Power construction companies regarding failure to complete construction works.

    • Representing Elering regarding a power substation explosion

      Representing the Estonian national transmission system operator Elering in a construction dispute against Empower and Elektrilevi regarding a power substation that exploded. The dispute focuses on whether Empower constructed the power substation according to the parties’ agreement and Elektrilevi operated it according to the relevant statutes.

    • Representing KPMG Baltics regarding alleged deficiencies in an auditing report

      Successfully representing KPMG Baltics and its auditors against Bridgeport, who submitted a claim due to alleged deficiencies in an auditing report.

    • Representing SIA Binders in an arbitration dispute against the Estonian Road Administration

      Representing SIA Binders, Latvia’s biggest road construction company, in an arbitration dispute against the Estonian Road Administration in a dispute regarding the quality of works.

    • Representing Kidy Tour regarding the distribution of a defamation letter

      Successfully representing travel agency Kidy Tour in a dispute against Anhel travel agency regarding the distribution of a defamation letter to Kidy Tour’s clients, business partners, media and state agencies.

    • Representing Dainius Karpavičius in a dispute against Banc de Binary

      Successfully representing Lithuanian resident Dainius Karpavičius in a dispute against the Cypriot investment bank Banc de Binary regarding the bank’s refusal to withdraw from an investment. The Cypriot Financial Regulator withdrew Banc de Binary‘s license.

    • Representing Postimees against the deputy mayor of Tallinn

      Successfully representing Estonian daily newspaper Postimees against the deputy mayor of Tallinn in a defamation case regarding the publishing of an article in Postimees.

    • Representing Indrek Rahumaa in various disputes against its creditors.

      Representing Estonian businessman Indrek Rahumaa and related companies in various disputes against its creditors.

    • Representing Reverta in disputes against debtors

      Representing the professional distressed asset management company Reverta (formerly Parex Bank) in various disputes against debtors.
