Silvia Urgas is a member of the dispute resolution practice group and has represented clients in several civil matters. In addition, Silvia specialises in intellectual property and has, among other things, represented clients in many trademark disputes and advised them on different issues concerning copyright.

    Silvia has represented and assisted clients in several voluminous civil matters, including in proceedings concerning the recognition and entry into force of foreign judgments, arbitration proceedings and also enforcement proceedings. Silvia has advised clients on various disputes and issues related to intellectual property and the IT sector. She is also experienced in the field of insolvency, including in proceedings for the release from obligations and reorganisation proceedings of debtors.

    In 2017, Silvia defended her Master's degree (cum laude) at the University of Tartu, where she studied copyright problems associated with music sampling for the first time in Estonia. As a guest lecturer, Silvia teaches intellectual property law to master’s degree students of Estonian Business School’s and Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre’s joint curriculum for cultural management.

    Silvia’s debut poetry book Siht/koht won the Betti Alver Literary Award in 2016.

      TGS Baltic advised Paul-Tech in attracting an investment of 1.4 million from leading Estonian venture capital investors

      TGS Baltic advised the client throughout the entire transaction, from the negotiation and preparation of Estonian transaction documents to the completion of the transaction. The investment round was led by the Estonian venture capital fund Superangel, in which SmartCap, Honey Badger Capital, Estonian Business Angels Network (EstBAN), Tatoli AS, Overkill VC and business angels from Sweden participated.

      Harju County Court dismissed all three actions brought against our client in the total amount of EUR 2,500,000. In three court cases that lasted more than two years, it was argued whether our client had breached their official duty and failed to protect the interests of the corporate debtor in the bankruptcy proceedings.

      By its judgment of 12 May 2023, Tallinn Circuit Court entirely dismissed the accusations made against our clients, including board member liability, breach of employment agreement, and consequent damage claims in a noteworthy and complex case.

      TGS Baltic advised the Estonian national postal service provider Eesti Post (Omniva) on the purchase of certain assets (network of smart mailboxes and related IP rights) from Parcelsea (Estonian based startup concentrating on developing innovative delivery solutions). TGS Baltic advised the client during the entire transaction, from assisting the client during due diligence exercise until drafting, negotiating and closing of the transaction documents.

      TGS Baltic team has advised data traceability software developer LiTech OÜ on raising €500,000 in investments from several Estonian venture capital investors. TGS Baltic Senior Associates, Mirko Kikkamägi and Silvia Urgas, advised the client throughout the transaction, from negotiating and drafting transaction documents to finalizing the deal.

      TGS Baltic successfully represented clients in a dispute concerning unfair competition

      After a court action that lasted for more than a year, the opposing party withdrew their claims filed against the two clients of TGS Baltic. The claim filed against both clients exceeded a quarter of a million euros. Harju County Court dismissed the claims by its order of 15 November 2021. The clients were represented by senior associates Chirag Mody and Silvia Urgas.

      TGS Baltic's senior associates Martti Peetsalu and Silvia Urgas scored an important victory for the Estonian pharmaceutical company AS KEVELT in the Supreme Court.

      On 16 June 2021, the Supreme Court ruled in favour of AS KEVELT, a customer of TGS Baltic, holding that a consignor of temperature-sensitive goods such as medicines may assume that the carrier of the goods has a proper action plan for refrigeration equipment failure.
